A Visit from Saint Nicholas
This
annual December event rallies the community around the issue
of literacy in Jacksonville’s challenged elementary
schools. It also provides 8,000 children a celebration complete
with colorful backpacks filled with toys and books, story
reading and a visit from Saint Nicholas himself.
To help
make this worthwhile event a reality we need the help of
caring corporations and individual citizens. Opportunities range from entire school sponsorships to sponsoring one backpack for a child. For your contribution of $25 for each sponsored child, HOJ will send a festive holiday card to each person on your list acknowledging your gift in their name, or in memory/honor of someone special. Click Share the Joy!, download and fill-out the donor information requested and return to HOJ if you would like to respond by mail. To make a donation now using either a credit/debit card or an electronic check, click MAKE A DONATION. To become a

Celebration of Service
Every
year HOJ celebrates the good work of our community’s
most outstanding volunteers with a black tie, gala event
called Celebration of Service. This event, always held in
April to celebrate National Volunteer Week and Jacksonville
Volunteer Appreciation Month, is held at the Times Union
Center for the Performing Arts Moran Theatre. Volunteer
Awardees, their guests and volunteer supporters are treated
to a VIP Reception that features our city’s finest
cuisine, and then the awardees are highlighted in the awards
ceremony presented in the theatre.
Sponsors for this event
play an active role in recognizing these amazing volunteers.

Points of Light Youth Leadership Institute (PYLI)
In the past, sophomores, juniors and seniors from area public
and private high schools, have spent their Fridays during the summer at HandsOn
Jacksonville learning about leadership, friendship,
and most importantly, the causes they are passionate about.
By the end of the summer these PYLI graduates have explored
the needs in our community and together, with their new-found
friends, have engineered a volunteer project that makes
a positive impact on one of the needs they’ve agreed
to address. What a way to spend a summer!
The PYLI program
only charged participants a nominal fee of $75 to cover
meals. This represented only a small amount of the actual
cost to effectively run the program. Currently, HOJ is unable to offer PYLI until someone volunteers to sponsor the program. If you are interested, click PYLI
SPONSOR. To find out more about this program, click PYLI.
Support VJ While Searching the Web
What if HandsOn Jacksonville earned a penny every time you searched the Internet? GoodSearch.com is a new search engine powered by Yahoo! which makes this possible. Just go to www.goodsearch.com and enter HandsOn Jacksonville as the charity you want to support. If 500 of us search four times a day, we can raise about $7300 in a year without anyone spending a dime. Be sure to spread the word!
Shop the YellowBrickMall.com
HandsOn Jacksonville has teamed up with the YellowBrickMall.com, an online shopping mall that donates a percentage of online sales back to VJ. You can help by purchasing from any of the hundreds of national online merchants shown on the VJ page on the YellowBrickMall.com site: www.yellowbrickmall.com/volunteerjacksonville.php. Take a look at the wide variety of stores available and while you are remembering birthdays and weddings, getting travel and events tickets, and doing your general shopping - you can be helping HandsOn Jacksonville at the same time.
Helping HandsOn is Simple
HandsOn Jacksonville is joining other nonprofits on www.WeGive.org. Made possible by The Nonprofit Center, WeGive.org is a website that connects local nonprofits to our community. People and groups who want to give to the HansdOn Jacksonville projects they see on WeGive.org can donate immediately and securely.
HandsOn Jacksonville will use WeGive.org donations to support the projects that are posted there – whether it is creating community gardens, leading a beach clean up, or providing craft supplies for projects that impact marginalized populations. The project pages reflect HandsOn Jacksonville’s immediate and urgent needs.
Each project has a start and end date and is limited to $5,000. Donors can see the impact of their donations immediately on the website. They can track the progress of the project and decide to become more involved by using WeGive.org or by volunteering for HandsOn Jacksonville. Giving through WeGive.org is a simple way to start getting involved with HandsOn Jacksonville and the programs we provide that make our community better.
WeGive.org donations are fast, convenient and 100 percent tax deductible. When you make a donation through the website, you will receive a receipt from Paypal and a confirmation email from WeGive.org. Be sure to save and/or print the receipt and/or confirmation e-mail you receive for your tax records.

Gifts-in-Kind: Neighbors to the Rescue (NTR) Virtual Warehouse
Clothes, cars, computers, toys - chances are, each of us has items ready to replace, yet often these same items would be welcomed as
'brand new' to one who needs them. We will help you find the person who can use what you no longer need if you are willing to list your donated goods on our NTR site which we call our Virtual Warehouse and hold on to those items until the right person is found.
Please submit the following information about any items which you would like to donate. These items will be made available to our neighbors in need through the Virtual Warehouse. You will be contacted when a match is made.
